“Shall We Gather? is the opening song in the “River of Light” oratorio. We must each decide if we shall gather at the river. As such, only the verse is introduced in this opening song, posing the essential question that paves the way for the rest of the oratorio to answer. The mood is reflective, allowing each of us to ponder our path, just as the river.
