Elegy for Eden is a stand-alone movement from “The River of Light.” It is scored for two soloists, soprano and baritone, and chorus with either piano or orchestral accompaniment. Adam and Eve, the two soloists, sing a series of bittersweet limericks for Eden’s fate. Chorus joins with the Jewish lament Avinu Malkeinu, in English, while the soloists sing it afterward in Hebrew. Middle eastern harmonies set the mood for this sorrowful, yet meditative song.
